For buildings of a certain size or larger, it is obligatory to investigate the presence of asbestos in advance and report the results to the prefectures.

Of these, reporting to prefectures will be compulsory from 2022, and within the next year, the Ministry of the Environment will amend the ministerial ordinance to determine the scale of buildings for which reporting is required.

With this revision, the number of dismantling works subject to the regulations is expected to increase from about 16,000 cases per year so far to a maximum of about 320,000 cases, and the Ministry of the Environment etc. will conduct surveys and construction appropriately.
