Since the amount of milk that the farmer can sell becomes smaller when the calves are feeding, it is an important factor for farmers who want to change their production.

- Dairy farms in Sweden have a squeezed seat financially. Then they do not have room for risks to change in their system, because it is not certain that you can manage the economy until you make everything work well, says Sigrid Agenäs, a professor in the management of ruminants at the Department of Pet Feeding and Care at SLU.

But there are several factors that play a role and may make up for the reduced amount of milk.
