“We could not help but pay attention to the emergency situation in the United States after the murder by police on May 25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, of an American citizen, African American George Floyd,” the statement said.

Diplomats recalled that during the arrest, Floyd “was strangled in front of many passers-by”, and the video recording of the incident “clearly indicates that we are talking about a brutal murder."

As stated in the Foreign Ministry, from year to year Washington refuses to expand its international legal obligations in the humanitarian sphere, still does not participate in most major international human rights treaties, continues to ignore the recommendations of human rights organizations, is deliberately leading to curtailing its participation in specialized international and universal structures.

As an example, diplomats cited the US withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council.

“We urge the American authorities to take real and effective measures to rectify the situation, return to the faithful fulfillment of international obligations, bring national legislation into line with the basic UN principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement agencies. And, of course, thoroughly investigate the murder of George Floyd,” - added to the ministry.

Earlier, the Minneapolis authorities introduced an emergency regime in the city, and Governor Tim Walls decided to involve the U.S. National Guard in maintaining order after the protests that began after the 46-year-old local resident George Floyd, who was detained by police officers, died in hospital.
