Lulwah Al-Khater, the Qatari assistant minister, denied that Qatar has any intention to withdraw from the Gulf Cooperation Council, describing these rumors as wrong, and not based on any basis.

Al-Khater was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying that with the impending third year of the blockade imposed by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, it was not surprising that Gulf citizens had doubts and questions about the GCC in its institutional capacity.

The agency quoted - quoting Lulwa Al-Khater - as saying that these rumors resulted from a feeling of frustration and despair at the rift that afflicted the Gulf Cooperation Council, which used to be a source of hope for the people of its six countries.
