Kuwait Airways announced that it has cut about 1500 employees from various sectors, to remedy the economic effects caused by the "Covid 19-Corona" virus, which resulted in the suspension of commercial activity of airlines.

The airlines said, in a statement reaching Al-Jazeera Net, a copy of it, that they decided to lay off about 1500 non-Kuwaiti employees, noting that this difficult decision comes in view of the major challenges facing the company in particular and the global aviation sector in general, where the impact of a virus is expected to continue. This also comes in accordance with a plan that "Kuwaiti" intends to implement now, after it stopped its operations since the government took the precautionary measures to confront the Corona pandemic last March.

The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas quoted a source as saying that a committee had been formed from the top management departments and the union of employees of the company to follow up the implementation of the plan to reduce the number of foreign employees, explaining that this decision does not include Kuwaiti or Gulf citizens or married couples married to Kuwaiti women and vice versa.

The newspaper stated that the total number of employees amounts to six thousand employees, including one thousand Kuwaitis, and that the Operations Department includes about five hundred pilots (most of whom are Kuwaitis) and 1300 hosts and hostesses (most of them are foreigners), and therefore will be used to end the services of a large number of hosts.

The newspaper attributed to its sources that the estimated losses of airlines in the world during the current year will reach 314 billion dollars, the share of the Middle East region, including about 24 billion, in addition to the loss of 1.2 million jobs in the sector in the region.
