They were eagerly awaited. The first two baby swans of the Ourcq canal (19th arrondissement) were finally born this Wednesday. The parents - baptized by a resident Odette and Siegfried in homage to the ballet Le lac des cygnes  - which have been incubating for several weeks, have been installed since mid-March on a vegetated raft near the Crimean bridge. There are still five eggs to hatch. Odette and Siegfried keep an eye on things. The city of Paris and associations too.

Some concerns

In mid-April, the 19th century town hall had put protective barriers around the raft to protect the nest. But for the association, Paris Animaux Zoopolis, this is not enough given the risk of theft of swans.

The spokesperson for Paris Animaux Zoopolis, asks the City to "sanctuarize" the Rouvray dock (a dead arm of the Ourcq canal located behind the large covered market hall in La Villette) and its surroundings to offer swans and their small less exposed habitat, notes the Parisian. “Our association wrote to you asking you to protect Odette and Siegfried with barriers. We thank you. We await your engagement on the sanctuarization of the Darse du Rouvray. Their place is calm there, ”explains the association on Twitter. "It is under study. We are in favor of it, ”replied Pénélope Komitès, deputy mayor in charge of green spaces.
