The strategy proposed by the European Commission has been nicknamed “from the farm to the fork”, which is reminiscent of another European slogan “from stable to table” because since the reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union started with the century, the project is to establish an agriculture more respectful of the environment.
This project goes further than the previous ones: it is the agricultural component of the famous Green Pact of the European Commission and it proposes quantified objectives combined with the other proposal of this Wednesday, the "biodiversity strategy 2030". Its starting point is to restore degraded ecosystems and to make 30% of EU waters and land effectively protected protected areas.
On the agricultural side, the Commission proposes, within ten years, to halve the use of pesticides and 20% the use of fertilizers. It also proposes to increase the share of the area used for organic farming from 7.5 to 25%.
