From our correspondent in New York,

Surrounded by his daughter Ivanka, the Secretary of Agriculture and representatives of the agricultural industry, Donald Trump announces with great fanfare: additional aid will be given to American farmers, breeders, farmers affected by the health crisis and the closure of restaurants.

We are unlocking $ 19 billion to support our producers, maintain our supply chain and provide food assistance to families. $ 19 billion  , "said the President.

This envelope is in addition to the billions already put in place to help the Americans since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Farmers and farmers who need it can register at the end of May to benefit.

The President took advantage of this announcement to appeal to his constituents in the agricultural world, allowing himself once again to compare with President Lincoln.

"  I think we are good with the farmers,he launched. But who wouldn't be? Who wouldn't be with Trump? I'm telling you, maybe you have to go back to Abraham Lincoln to find a president who took care of the farmers as much as Trump. "

To defend the meat industry, Donald Trump also suggested that trade agreements with certain countries that supply cattle to the United States should be reviewed: "  We have good cattle at home." We are self-sufficient,  ”insisted the American president.
