According to a police source, he was hiding on a farm located on the outskirts of Kinshasa, east of the capital. This is where the police went to find him on Friday . And it was late Monday afternoon that Daniel Shangalume Masaro was transferred to the Kinshasa-Matete prosecution. He just spent the night there. This Tuesday, he will be heard by a magistrate, explain other sources in the corridors of the parquet floor.
Nephew of Vital Kamerhe, the man is supposed to have acted as a go-between between his uncle and the Lebanese businessman Samih Jammal in a transaction related to the construction on behalf of the Congolese state of prefabricated houses. Vital Kamerhe, Samih Jammal and Muhima Ntole (the Import-Export manager of the Presidency of the Republic) are being prosecuted in this case for embezzlement of public funds. It is about 50 million US dollars, according to the prosecution.
Today, Daniel Masaro does not have a lawyer. Me John Kaboto, who defends Vital Kamerhe, maintains that the nephew of the presidential chief of staff is not yet informed of the allegations against him. Could Masaro be linked to the misappropriation of public funds? He will certainly know after the interrogation with a judge on Tuesday.
In addition, the fifth request for provisional release introduced by the director of cabinet of the president of the Republic was rejected. Vital Kamerhe will therefore have to stay in prison.
