Russian indicators compared to other countries

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova drew attention to the correlation of mortality rates from COVID-19 in Russia with data from all over the world: "The mortality rate in the Russian Federation is 7.5 times less than in the world as a whole."

"Why, if the result of the fight against this infection is impressive for us, then for others it causes only bouts of jealousy?" - said Golikova on the TV channel "Russia 1".

Recall that earlier in a number of large Western media, such as The New York Times, Financial Times and Bloomberg, materials were published on the situation with COVID-19 in Russia. The authors of these texts claimed that the Russian authorities allegedly underestimated the data on mortality from coronavirus infection in the country.

Soon after, the Russian Foreign Ministry called for a rebuttal in connection with the publication of this fake information. The head of the department, Sergey Lavrov, said that the relevant authorities of Russia should deal with the situation around publications in Western media.

The minister spoke out against “arranging trials” of the press, but noted that “journalists are required to be responsible for what they publish.”

In turn, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced the start of a disinformation campaign against Russia in the context of the pandemic, and also dwelt in detail on the publication of Bloomberg.

“I’m not sure, by the way, that the“ world order ”in which the Bloomberg agency publishes an article with the headline“ Experts want to know why the coronavirus did not kill more Russians, ”is all right,” she wrote on Facebook.

Subsequently, the editors of Bloomberg changed the title of the article on mortality from coronavirus in Russia. Now, Bloomberg’s material is entitled “Experts Ask About Russian Data on Mortality from COVID-19.” It is noted that the name was changed, since the authors question the methodology of statistics for counting coronavirus victims in Russia.

The situation in the regions

In a number of regions, work is continuing to partially exit the current regime of restrictions introduced to counteract the spread of coronavirus. In particular, the governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov spoke about the progress of this activity. According to him, there are three indicators on the basis of which a certain part of the economy can be launched.

“The spread coefficient should be less than one. The second is a sufficient level of testing, everything is in order with us, ”the governor said on the air of the Week in the City program on the Russia 1 television channel.

The third criterion for the readiness of the region Vorobyov called the presence of 50% of free places for admission of patients in medical institutions. The governor noted that work in this direction continues. According to his estimates, the region will meet all three of these indicators by May 18.

In the Leningrad Region, amendments were made to the resolution of the authorities of the region of May 11, according to which part of the enterprises in the services and trade sectors resumed work. So, the activities of shopping centers with an area of more than 25 thousand m² in the so-called first and second zones of the region are suspended due to the inability to comply with sanitary and epidemiological standards. It is reported that the decision was made on the basis of the requirements of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare.

Meanwhile, the head of the Dagestan Ministry of Health, Jamaludin Hajiyibragimov, in an interview with blogger Ruslan Kurbanov, said that, according to him, more than 40 doctors have died from pneumonia and the consequences of coronavirus infection since the epidemic began in the region.

He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Gadzhiyibragimov reported that almost 13.7 thousand cases of community-acquired pneumonia were registered in the republic, some of them were diagnosed with COVID-19. According to the head of the regional Ministry of Health, 657 people died from community-acquired pneumonia in Dagestan.

According to statistics from the operational headquarters, in Dagestan, 3371 cases of coronavirus and 29 who died from complications are known. Gadzhiyibragimov explained that deaths from complications of COVID-19 and from community-acquired pneumonia are divided into separate categories, since statistics are kept on laboratory-confirmed cases.

The head of the department added that patients with community-acquired pneumonia are treated practically according to the same guidelines as patients with confirmed COVID-19.

We add that the representative office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Russia reported that a final assessment of mortality from coronavirus requires waiting for more studies on mortality on a global scale.

“For a final assessment of the mortality and mortality rate from COVID-19 in a pandemic as a whole, it is necessary to wait for more studies of mortality data on a global, global scale,” the WHO office in Russia quoted RBC as saying.
