Germany: Angela Merkel accuses Russia of hacking

Many have long questioned Russia's responsibility for certain computer attacks in Germany against public institutions. These suspicions also existed for an operation carried out against the Bundestag in 2015. German justice confirmed this thesis according to the press. Angela Merkel, questioned on the subject, supported this track.

"  I can honestly say it hurts. »Angela Merkel answered the questions of a member of parliament in a straightforward manner denouncing the" scandalous  " attempts  at Russian hacking against Germany and more precisely the massive attack in 2015 against the Bundestag of which the member Angela Merkel was also victim .

"  Every day I try to have better relations with Russia and at the same time we have such tangible evidence on the responsibility of Moscow,  " added the Chancellor.

According to German media reports, the federal prosecutor's office, after a lengthy investigation, has issued an arrest warrant against the Russian hacker Dimitri Badin, also wanted by the FBI. He is believed to have participated in a 2016 computer campaign attack in the United States.

Angela Merkel also spoke of the murder, last year in the heart of Berlin, of a Georgian of Chechen origin for which German justice suspects the Russian services of being implicated.

The Chancellor said that Germany reserved the right to take retaliatory measures, including against Russia, without specifying what their nature might be.
