So, on April 30, three armed militants were neutralized in Yekaterinburg. During the operation, security forces introduced the regime of counter-terrorist operation (CTO) in the city and its environs. On the proposal to surrender, the militants opened fire, as a result of the shootout, FSB special forces neutralized the attackers. In the house where the criminals took refuge, improvised explosive devices were found, as well as weapons and ammunition.

According to reports, the perpetrators were supporters of the banned Islamic State terrorist organization * and were preparing to commit “high-profile terrorist crimes”.

In early April, the 4th, another IG supporter who planned to carry out the attack was liquidated in Murmansk. When trying to detain the militant opened fire on special forces and was neutralized.

The day before, it became known that terrorist attacks were prevented in the Stavropol Territory and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

At the end of March, the Federal Security Service of Russia announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in Krasnodar. Siloviki detained a Russian born in 1993, in whose car they found a makeshift bomb, and correspondence with militants of the Islamic State on the phone. The explosive device was stuffed with metal bolts and screws to enhance the damaging effect.

In addition, on March 20, FSB officers announced the suppression of the Islamic State cell, which operated in the Crimea, Rostov Region and the Komi Republic. As it became known, its participants created an interregional network to raise funds for the IG. As a result, about 2 million rubles were transferred to the accounts of terrorists under the guise of charity.

In early March of this year, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee of Russia summed up the work on countering terrorism in the country. According to the committee, in 2019, security officials detained 41 terrorist leaders, 241 ordinary insurgents and more than 600 accomplices. It was also possible to suppress the activities of 78 cells of banned organizations, whose members planned terrorist attacks and attacks on law enforcement officers.

Over the past year, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB and the Russian Guard have eliminated 83 illegal workshops for the production and conversion of weapons.

Earlier, in February, President Vladimir Putin noted that in 2019 the number of extremist crimes had more than halved. However, the head of state emphasized that this was “not a reason for complacency,” recalling that the Ministry of Internal Affairs was responsible for maintaining stability in society.
