The New York Times received three Pulitzer Prizes on Monday, making it the most awarded media in the 2020 promotion, including a series of articles on the taxi crisis in New York and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The deadline for submitting applications was January 25, making it unlikely that articles devoted to the coronavirus would be designated.

In addition to the New York Times, the nonprofit news site ProPublica and the magazine The New Yorker each received two awards.

After a 2019 vintage very marked by Donald Trump and a 2018 vintage under the sign of #MeToo, the 2020 Pulitzer list did not show a preference for a particular subject.

The New York Times was awarded for a series of articles on the plight of New York taxis, forced to borrow colossal sums to buy their license and then ruined with the arrival of VTCs.

The daily also won in the international category, for its coverage of what it presents as maneuvers by Vladimir Putin to consolidate its power and strengthen its influence abroad.

The third award came in the "Commentary" category, for an essay by journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, who was part of the New York Times Magazine project "1619".

This dossier marked the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first slaves on the territory of what is today the United States, and aimed to recall the contribution of slaves and black Americans in general in the construction of the country.

In the national coverage category, three journalists from the ProPublica site were awarded prizes for an investigation which highlighted serious dysfunctions in the 7th Fleet of the United States Navy.

They shared the award with four Seattle Times reporters, authors of several articles on the design issues that led to the Boeing 737 Max scandal.

Among other major categories, the Courier-Journal of Louisville (Kentucky) was distinguished for its coverage of immediate information (Breaking News), which had highlighted a series of graces granted by the outgoing governor of Kentucky, Matt Bevin .

Created in 1917, the Pulitzer prizes reward the work of journalists from American publications, daily newspapers, magazines or news sites.

They also reward press photography, drawing, radio, literature, poetry and music.
