122,000 people have registered with the Swedish Employment Service since March 1 this year and according to the latest statistics from the Swedish Employment Service, more than 69,000 have been notified during the same period.

- What we have been able to see is that the alerts hit the hotel, restaurant, trade and travel services. This is where the crisis hit hardest in the Swedish labor market. We have also seen that it affects the cultural sector and the hospitality industry, ”says Labor Minister Eva Nordmark (S).

"Above all, an increase among young women"

Eva Nordmark also believes that there is a difference between men and women who enroll in the Employment Service.

- During the financial crisis, it was mainly the industry and the men who were affected. But in this crisis, we see that it is primarily an increase among young women that is increasing more than young men. This can of course be because they are over-represented in the affected industries, says Eva Nordmark.

It is mainly young people who have a weak position in the labor market that are particularly vulnerable - young people with disabilities, young people who may not have a high school diploma and young people with a foreign background.

180 million for summer jobs

To help young people get jobs, the government chooses to invest 180 million in summer jobs.

- We know from previous crises that it is young people who are hit hardest and first, says Eva Nordmark and continues.

- We hope that the creativity and ingenuity we see among many municipalities and employers will enable us to provide summer jobs to young people, says the Minister of Labor.

During the first few weeks, it was mainly Stockholm County and the major cities that were affected by notice.

- But now we have increased distribution throughout the country and that other counties are increasing for each measurement, says Eva Nordmark.
