Demands are now being raised from many quarters that the huge support packages to save the world's economies should also be focused on creating a greener economy after the corona crisis.

Something that should be a matter of course according to the Environmental Party's previous language pipeline, and now part of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce's re-commission, Maria Wetterstrand.

- We cannot afford not to do things that solve both the economic crisis and the climate crisis. Then we risk getting into a situation where we incur even greater costs eventually, when we suffer the next crisis, she says in tonight's Agenda.

Long-term

Maria Wetterstrand believes that it is both about helping companies that have urgent needs and building societies that are much more stable than they are today.

- Then we need to think about the long-term. What kind of society should we have when we get out of the crisis? And how should we make sure that the investments we make are also those that will continue in the future. For every sum we invest now is money that you basically borrow from children and grandchildren. This will be loans that the states need to take and which will be repaid by future generations. Then we are obliged to actually build something that works even when they live on this planet.

"Significant adverse effects"

Former Finance Minister Anders Borg (M) also visited Agenda to talk about the support packages that are now being paid out in need. He believes that we should assume that we have a very deep economic crisis ahead of us, and that a significant part of these adverse effects will linger for a long time.

- We will have much higher unemployment, investments will be very low and we have probably lost some in competitiveness so there are major challenges we face in the coming years.

He says that in this situation, things should not be set against each other and that one must both take the climate issue seriously and focus on unemployment not biting.

- And then we have to get the investments up and there can certainly be dimensions that are green in it, not least in Europe where we need to reduce coal use.
