Khalifa University of Science and Technology announced that researchers from the Center for Biotechnology and the Center for Membranes and Advanced Water Technology, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, are working on a project aimed at monitoring the presence of viruses in wastewater, to detect and trace early coronavirus to all individuals.

The university aims, through this practice, to know the feasibility of developing a Corona virus monitoring system in wastewater networks in the country, and linking it with simulation models that are developed to predict the spread of the epidemic with health institutions, which helps to control the spread of the epidemic.

The university indicated that the studies indicate that the vital samples produced by individuals infected with Corona virus, including those who do not show symptoms, pass through wastewater, and that the levels of the virus in wastewater wastes can reflect the estimated ratios of the number of infected cases, This is because examining wastewater samples means examining each person participating in the sample, which represents a group examination of people against the virus.

The university confirmed that the experiences of monitoring the viral presence in wastewater have proven successful, which reflects its readiness to support the national plans developed by the authorities concerned with combating the new Corona virus (COFED-19) in the country, in monitoring the virus in sanitation stations, and conducting further research studies to estimate ratios and trends Spreading.

The Executive Vice President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Dr. Aref Sultan Al Hammadi said: “The Emirates seeks to follow the best global practices, and supports the scientific research conducted by the university to come out with the best and most recent available solutions, and take appropriate measures to address the emerging corona virus early.”
