Citizens opened its national congress this Thursday, a telematic general assembly, renouncing self-criticism, without analyzing the causes of its collapse and minimizing the debacle of last November 10, in contrast to its success in municipal, regional or municipal elections. general elections in April, in which it has been detained in detail.

Since 10-N, the Cs leadership had postponed the self-criticism, ensuring that this debate should be held in the assembly that met this Thursday on its first day. However, and when the time came, even though it was almost six months later, the party went on tiptoe on its own hecatomb.

The management report of the previous Executive, which was initially going to defend the former general secretary, José Manuel Villegas , has been read by a voiceover . In it, the outgoing leadership has minimized the catastrophic result of the party on November 10, when it sank from 57 deputies to 10 seats.

After exhaustively detailing his results in the regional and municipal elections and in the general elections in April, he tiptoed through the November elections and only concludes that his offer of an in extremis agreement to avoid electoral repetition "did not know or not He was able to mobilize the voters who trusted us in April. "

The leadership of Albert Rivera - who has not participated in the report because he abandoned politics 12 hours after the debacle - also explains that the refusal of the center party to seek an alliance with the PSOE, which had 180 deputies, was due to the fact that "Citizens kept their electoral promise not to make Pedro Sánchez president," without entering further explanations.

The Villegas report

"With the electoral repetition, Ciudadanos continued to present itself as an alternative and at the same time with a state solution," says the report that Villegas produced in his day, although he later preferred not to present it.

He only states later that "in view of the results obtained," "it seems clear that this proposal" disappointed its own voters, because "it did not know or could not" mobilize them. Still, the report highlights that 1.6 million voters continued to trust Ciudadanos.

In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and while the country remains in alarm, Ciudadanos has chosen to continue with its congress, initially scheduled for March 14 and 15. The conclave is carried out telematically, without physical headquarters. The more than 400 delegates who follow him do so from their homes and without leaving the confinement imposed to stop the pandemic.

In the same management report, it was highlighted that "responsibilities were assumed in the first person", because in addition to the leader and founder of the party, the main members of its leadership resigned: José Manuel Villegas; the Secretary of Communication, Fernando de Páramo ; and that of Organization, Fran Hervías .

From Rivera to Arrimadas

None of them will have any participation in the general assembly. Only Albert Rivera has finally decided to send a video that will be broadcast today after initially rejecting the invitation to participate.

The Citizens Congress is historic, because after almost 14 years of life, the party is going to try to get out of the deep slump in which it meets a new leader, Inés Arrimadas, who devastated the primaries that were held on the 7th and the March 8.

The liberal formation has turned in its previous position and since the coronavirus crisis erupted, it has continued to reach out to the Government to seek solutions for the triple crisis unleashed: health, economic and social, distancing itself from the PP and, above all, from Vox.
