The number of patients who died in two months from the new coronavirus in the United States now exceeds that of the American soldiers killed in two decades during the conflict in Vietnam, according to the last count updated on Tuesday by Johns Hopkins University.

In total, 58,365 people died from Covid-19 in the country, the most affected on the planet. The daily balance sheet in the United States started to rise again on Tuesday, with 2,207 additional deaths from the new coronavirus in 24 hours, while the number of deaths on a day had decreased around 1,300 Sunday and Monday.

One million cases diagnosed

A total of 58,220 American soldiers lost their lives during the Vietnam War (1955-1975), according to the official balance sheet published at the National Archives. Even if the two events have nothing to do, this threshold is symbolic since the Vietnam War remains one of the greatest trauma experienced by Americans in the 20th century.

Also on Tuesday, the United States crossed another symbolic bar, that of the million diagnosed cases of new coronavirus. This represents about a third of the total number of cases recorded in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University.
