The United States reiterated its willingness to recognize the annexation of large parts of the occupied West Bank by Israel, while calling for the next Israeli government to negotiate with the Palestinians.

A State Department spokeswoman told reporters on Monday that the recognition would take place "in the context of the Israeli government's agreement to negotiate with the Palestinians on the basis of the lines set out by President Donald Trump's vision."

According to the French Press Agency, this statement comes as an illustration of what was confirmed days ago by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who said that the final decision regarding the annexation of areas of the West Bank belongs to the next Israeli government.

In late January, US President Donald Trump revealed his "vision" of peace in the Middle East, in which he gave the Israeli occupation the green light to annex the Jordan Valley - the strategic area that accounts for 30% of the West Bank - and the settlements built in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The occupied East, which has become, in the eyes of the American administration, an integral part of the united capital of Israel.

Israeli settlements built on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, which currently number more than 200, are illegal under international law.

Trump's plan has been rejected by the Palestinians, supported by most of the international community, as it is closing the door to a two-state solution in the Middle East.

On Monday, the League of Arab States announced that the Arab foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting on the Internet Thursday to discuss ways to confront Israel's plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinians feared the possibility of the occupation annexing parts of their lands after the agreement reached by the outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former opponent Benny Gantz to form a "unity and emergency" government.

The agreement authorized Netanyahu to "transfer the US President's plan to achieve Israeli sovereignty (over parts of the West Bank) to the government and parliament, according to the procedures in place."

Netanyahu faces pressure to quickly annex these areas before the US elections scheduled for November 3.
