Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed Sunday his confidence that the United States will give Israel its approval within two months to move forward with the actual annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank, while his statements have caused Palestinian discontent towards Israel’s plans to tighten its grip over lands it seized in the 1967 war, which is Land seeking to establish a state on them.

Earlier, in announcing the agreement with his rival Benny Gantz last week to form a unity government, Netanyahu had decided next July 1 to start discussions in the government about extending Israel's sovereignty over Jewish settlements in the West Bank and annexing the Jordan Valley area completely.

According to the Netanyahu-Gantz agreement, such a move requires agreement with Washington.

In a video message addressed to a pro-Israel Christian group in Europe, Netanyahu described the US peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump in January as a promise to recognize Israel's authority over West Bank settlement lands.

"Within two months from now, I am confident that this promise will be fulfilled," Netanyahu assured the European Committee for Israel.

The Palestinians have yet to make any comment on Netanyahu's comments.
