People from, among others, Somalia, Syria, Iraq and Finland are over-represented among those who have covid-19 disease, given the proportion of the total population they make up, according to statistics from the Public Health Authority.

The report, presented April 17, shows that the overrepresentation is greatest among those born in Somalia. The Swedish Somalis account for 4.8 percent of the covid cases, but constitute only 1 percent of the population.

Some concern in Södertälje

Södertälje has many inhabitants with roots in Iraq, Syria, Finland and Turkey, which also stand out in the statistics.

People born in Iraq make up about 1.5 percent of Sweden's population, but around 4 percent of covid cases when the Public Health Agency last reported this. Those born in Syria make up about 3 percent of the covid cases but just under 2 percent of the population.

This has caused some concern in some Syrian Orthodox congregations where all operations have now closed.
