"So far, Africa has not been hit as Europe or the United States by the Covid-19," said Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), in an interview with France 24 and RFI. "Africa has been very careful, from the start of the crisis, almost all African countries have taken measures to protect themselves and to limit the spread of the disease."

According to her, the OIF can make an educational contribution by putting online courses and reaching populations marginalized by these various programs.

Supporting the economies of the continent

Regarding the temporary suspension of the debt service of the poorest countries granted by the G20 until the end of 2020, Louise Mushikiwabo, who signed on Monday a forum entitled "Suspension of Africa's debt: a good start for the G20, but more needs to be done ", alongside seven big African names in politics and the economy, believes that this temporary suspension of debt payments is not ambitious enough.

If, however, she says she is against outright debt cancellation for African countries - as French President Emmanuel Macron and his Senegalese counterpart Macky Sall are demanding - she calls for a more generous moratorium on the payment of debt, in order to to support the economies of the continent. "We are asking for a moratorium, a freeze on the payment of the debt", the time to "put the savings back on track".

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda also expresses her strong reprobation following the acts of violence against Africans in China, saying that these images were unacceptable.

Finally, when asked about the death in prison of the Rwandan singer and activist Kizito Mihigo, she rebelled against suspicions against the Rwandan regime, stressing that suicides are common in other countries, especially in France, without for as much to spark controversy.
