  • Pandemic: Italy records 431 coronavirus deaths in a single day, the lowest number in three weeks

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has appointed a team of experts to deal with so-called phase two - the gradual and progressive recovery of activities in the country - whose objective will be not only to plan how to restart the economy after a blockade of almost two months, but also take advantage of this crisis as an opportunity to transform Italy into a more modern and competitive country. In other words, by adapting - through the help of technology - infrastructures and processes to face the challenges of a world that will probably no longer be the one before the pandemic.

Conte has entrusted the leadership of the team to the Italian businessman and former CEO of the Vodafone Group, Vittorio Colao , 58 years old. The also former RCS MediaGroup advisor, studied at Bocconi University and has an MBA from Harvard. After leaving Vodafone, he stayed in London with his family and is currently a senior advisor to the American private equity fund General Atlantic.

A great athlete, he is also in favor of promoting the professional career of women and intelligent work , which he introduced in Vodafone. Colao moved the group's headquarters, previously located one hour from London, in the center of the British capital, a modality that requires less office space and, therefore, lower costs.

The task of returning the transalpine country to normality will be long and gradual. But it is also an ambitious and multidisciplinary challenge that requires different talents. That is why the 17 members of the working group led by Colao have been chosen with different backgrounds, abilities and roles.

If epidemiologists and virologists dominated in phase one, for this phase two, three top managers, three economists, two sociologists, a psychologist, a psychiatrist, an expert innovation physicist, an employment specialist, a lawyer have been required by the government , a marketer and disability expert.
