Earlier in the day, the Afghan government released 100 Taliban detainees held in Bagram prison north of Kabul. The Afghan government has released Taliban detainees since the 8th. As of the 12th, 300 Taliban detainees have been released.

Afghan President Ghani signed a presidential decree on March 10, deciding to release 5,000 Taliban detainees, but this plan has been postponed repeatedly.

The U.S. government and the Taliban in Afghanistan signed a peace agreement on February 29. According to the agreement, the United States promised to reduce the size of U.S. troops in Afghanistan from 13,000 to 8,600 within 135 days, while the remaining U.S. and NATO coalition soldiers will be evacuated within 14 months Afghanistan.
