Millions of Christians are preparing to celebrate Easter in confinement as the toll of the epidemic now exceeds 100,000 worldwide. WHO fears "a deadly resurgence" in the event of premature deconfinement.

  • The milestone of 13,000 dead crossed in France

More than 13,000 people have died in France since the start of the coronavirus epidemic, including " a child under 10 years old " in Ile-de-France whose causes of death seem however " multiple ", announced this Friday April 10 the Director General of Health, Jérôme Salomon. A total of 13,197 people died, including 8,598 in the hospital (+554 in 24 hours) and 4,599 in nursing homes and medico-social establishments (+ 433). The slight decrease in resuscitation admissions that began on Thursday continues, with 62 fewer patients in 24 hours, " a shy clearing up " " very important for all caregivers, " said Professor Salomon.

Emmanuel Macron and Edouard Philippe are leading a series of meetings to prepare the address to the French by the Head of State scheduled for Monday on the new measures.

Two days after the announcement of suspected cases, 50 members of the Charles-de-Gaulle aircraft carrier were tested positive. Three sailors had been evacuated " as a preventive measure ". The ship is now on its way to Toulon, its home port.

  • The number of deaths jumps in Belgium

The number of deaths has jumped in Belgium with 3,019 deaths, 496 new deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours.

  • Austria wants to better assess its contamination rate

  • American agriculture at risk

The United States (16,736 deaths for 467,184 cases) remains the most affected country after Italy. But there, as elsewhere, containment is working and the hospitalization curve is falling sharply in New York. However, the number of deaths remains significant (7,844 since the start of the crisis). Governor Andrew Cuomo says he is " cautiously optimistic ." As everywhere, the test race is on. The debate continues on the need to test everyone. Donald Trump is not in favor of it unlike the scientific world.

The disruption caused by the pandemic is hitting the agricultural world hard. Farmers are forced to throw out the deals today, at a time when some stores are asking their customers not to buy more than one carton of milk.   • Caution remains in order in China

Despite a relaxation of containment measures, the Chinese remain cautious in their movements.   • Promote a new model

European environment ministers are calling for post-epidemic recovery plans to take into account environmental and climate issues. According to them, " increase investment, particularly in the areas of sustainable mobility, renewable energy, renovation of buildings, research and innovation, restoration of biodiversity and the circular economy ".

In France, the Citizens Climate Convention (CCC) advocates for " a different economic, societal model, more human and more resilient ". Economists, including Thomas Piketty, call for " a fairer social and fiscal contract ".
