They have received two handmade visors that 25 employees will share. The idea is that they should be ripped off and used again. When presented to the employees last Friday, Ida Palmqvist thought it was a joke.

- It feels like a mockery to us when you see that hospital staff are covered from head to toe, she says.

In the clip, the care assistant Thea Thomasson demonstrates what it looks like when they have the visor on. They say they are exposed to the virus despite the protection. According to the employees, they have not been instructed to use mouth guards in connection with the visor.

Mouthguards should be used

Region Blekinge informed about the new corona cases on Thursday.

The regional hygiene routines are the ones that Blekinge municipalities must adhere to, and these instructions describe, among other things, what should be included in the protective equipment: hand-rubbing, short-sleeved plastic apron (long-sleeved can be considered in the risk of being exposed to body fluids), gloves, mouth protection and goggles or visors. According to Region Blekinge, visors and mouth guards must be used - or goggles and mouth guards.

According to the infectious protection physician, the handmade visors work well as a splash guard, and the home service personnel must manage the equipment they have. But if they get a corona case, they will have access to better equipment.

- Then they should have the same type of equipment used in hospitals, says Bengt Wittesjö.

"Have what is needed"

According to the unit head of the home service in Johannishus and Listerby, Jenny De Bie, the employees have access to oral protection. However, they are not of the class that gives the best liquid resistance, but they are approved together with visor.

- We have the equipment we need. And in case of suspected infection, they should contact the responsible nurse and then we will have access to better equipment, ”she says.

- I understand that they feel worried, but as long as they maintain the basic hygiene, they will go a long way.
