The latest Spanish statistics are encouraging and a decline in the coronavirus pandemic is near to begin in the country, said Thursday, April 9, the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez.

"The fire is starting to be brought under control," he told parliament, which is preparing to rule on the extension of the state of emergency until April 26.

The Spanish Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that Covid-19 killed 683 more people in 24 hours (up from 757 the day before), a figure that shows a further decline in the number deaths.

The toll is however particularly heavy in Spain where we deplore the death of 15,238 people and where there are 152,446 cases of contamination.

Preparing for the "post-coronavirus"

The government of Pedro Sanchez is now preparing for the "post-coronavirus" and has proposed an economic support plan inspired by the "Moncloa Pact". The latter had been concluded in 1977, after the death of General Francisco Franco, when Spain sought to enter the era of the market economy after decades of statism.

"I am proposing a great economic and social reconstruction pact to all the political forces that want to contribute to it," said the head of the Spanish government.

Measures implemented in Spain to contain the Covid-19 epidemic have saved lives and reduced the increase in the number of new infections from 22% to 4%, Pedro Sanchez told Parliament.
