A Chadian army spokesman announced to Agence France-Presse today, Thursday, that "52 Chadian soldiers" had been killed in an operation against the Boko Haram group in the Lake Chad region, affirming the elimination of "a thousand extremists."

The spokesman, Colonel Azim Bermindwa Aguna, said that the Chadian army ended the operation launched after the killing of about 100 soldiers last month, and the expulsion of extremists from its lands, "in the depths of Niger and Nigeria, waiting for their forces to take responsibility."

This is the first official count published on the "Puma Rage" operation launched by President Idriss Deby after the killing of Chadian soldiers on March 23.
