"Dare to ask older family members what is important to them"

The corona virus has been found in several of the country's elderly homes. Many of the old people who are infected never enter the hospital but die at the accommodation or in their homes.

- The elderly multi-sick patients are not feeling well from the treatment we can give them. Lying on a hard breeze, they can fall, they can get confused. And they certainly do not tolerate advanced respiratory care, says emergency physician Katrin Hruska.

Instead, the most fragile patients can be offered oxygen and good care, but according to Katrin Hruska, it is not always best for them to come to a hospital. She is now calling on relatives of the elderly multi-sick to have a conversation already about what is important to them.

- You have to think about, if you have a disease that has caused many coronary patients to have died, you should do it in hospitals where relatives cannot come and visit, or you want to do it in the home.

She thinks that although it can be difficult to ask questions, it is best to do so in advance.

- It is better if you have that call before than if someone calls from the hospital and asks "what would your mother have wanted", because then you are not prepared to answer those questions.
