In recent days, a one-day education has been given to fifteen people who will work in pairs to take patients to and from hospitals if needed.

As SVT Nyheter Västerbotten previously stated, this is precisely transport of the sick and not ambulance care, but a healthcare person will always be present, a student who can alert if needed. The Västerbotten region is now equipped for a supplementary staff group that can do medical transport for the ambulance from lunch to eight in the evening.

- The idea is that they will work in pairs, one from the rescue service who can drive vehicles and one who is a healthcare professional who, if necessary, can travel with the patient in the back of the transport section, says Jonas Alex, who is training the newly deployed staff for the day.

This is an unusual situation and Jonas Alex believes that reserve power is also needed if the own staff becomes ill.

Learn several steps

During the day, they get to run sick transport, learn communication with Rakel and then they get a thorough review of hygiene routines.

- For the general public, it is good to know that the yellow cars that it says are sick transport are just sick transport and no ambulances. But the staff in them can alert if additional help is needed if they pass, for example, a moped accident, says Jonas Alex.

HR partners for Region Västerbotten have looked at other regions when launching their own model in Västerbotten.

- It looks very different in different regions. Everything is not clear yet and it is of course quite uncertain what it is we will meet, says Maria Ingvarsson, HR partner.

Up to Monday, 15 students and emergency services personnel had been trained at the Umeå ambulance.

One of the participants is Alice Forssén, who is a nurse and who reads her fifth semester in the nursing program. Hear her tell us why she has jumped on the fast training in the clip above.
