US Senator Bernie Sanders announced today, Wednesday, his withdrawal from the competition to win the Democratic nomination for the US presidential elections, scheduled for next November, to make Joe Biden, the former vice president, open to competing with the current President Donald Trump.

In the withdrawal speech, via a live broadcast from his home in Burlington, Vermont state, Sanders, 79, announced that he has aligned with his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, and called on party supporters to support him.

The Vermont Senator pledged to work with Biden, calling him a respected man.

The withdrawal of the Senator, who describes himself as a Social Democrat, comes after a series of defeats against his opponent, and he advanced in some states in the first rounds of the Democratic primary elections, until "Big Tuesday" came, to retreat against his strongest opponents.

Al-Jazeera correspondent Nasser Al-Husseini quoted Sanders as saying that he no longer had many options, so he decided to withdraw, and he achieved an ideological victory, but he did not win the party's nomination.

After Sanders' withdrawal, one strong candidate within the Democratic Party is Joe Biden, who is only awaiting endorsement by a party candidate during his general conference, which was postponed to next August due to an outbreak of Corona virus in the United States, the reporter said.

Biden, 77, who served as Vice President Barack Obama two terms, is a statesman with great experience in managing internal and external issues, pointing out that the Corona crisis had a direct impact on the course of political life, especially on the race within the Democratic Party.

He added that Biden must now make an effort to win over the millions of Americans who stood with Senator Bernie Sanders.

He also said that President Donald Trump commented in a tweet on Twitter by saying that had it not been for the Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren - who withdrew a month before the race - Sanders would have had a stronger chance of getting a Democratic nomination card for the US presidential election.
