Madrid, with 42,450 confirmed cases, is the Autonomous Community hardest hit by the Covid-19 epidemic, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health at 21:00 on April 7. The region not only registers the highest number of positives, it is also the second with the most patients per 100,000 inhabitants, second only to La Rioja .

The publication of data at the municipality level, offered since yesterday Tuesday by the Ministry of Sanidaa , allows for the first time to trace a geography of the coronavirus in the region. In absolute figures and outside the capital -where more than half of those infected are counted- , Leganés , Alcalá de Henares, Móstoles, Alcorcón and Fuenlabrada, all with at least a thousand patients, are the towns that register the most cases Until now. The numbers are not surprising since they are the most populated places in the community.

More interesting is the analysis of the rate of infections per 100,000 inhabitants , which relates the incidence of the virus with the number of residents. Thus, in the Henares Corridor several of the terms with the highest rate of affected are located. These are Santorcaz , Corpa , Los Santos de la Humosa , Meco , Valverde de Alcalá or Villalbilla , all with higher data than those of the city of Madrid , which has 743 confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In the same area, the most populated municipalities include Alcalá de Henares (943), San Fernando de Henares (645) and T orrejón de Ardoz (562).

To the south of Madrid, Leganés (1,117 infections per 100,000 residents), Valdemoro (690), Coslada (666), Alcorcón (637) and Móstole s (592) are the cities most affected by the coronavirus. Their situation contrasts with that of the northern sierra of the community, where apart from small populations with a few cases, most municipalities do not compute confirmed infections or their number is less than five.

Within the capital, different outbreaks are also unevenly distributed throughout the territory. By total number of cases, Puente de Vallecas, Fuencarral- El Pardo, Latina and Carabanchel are the districts with the highest number of infected residents to date. However, when putting the cases in relation to the population, Vicálvaro (1,123 per 100,000 inhabitants), Retiro (1,038), Tetuán (899) and Villa de Vallecas (891) are the districts with the highest cumulative incidence rate.
