Foreign Minister Mogi has announced that Abigan, which is expected to be effective as a new coronavirus treatment, will be provided free of charge to 20 countries through international organizations.

Avigan is an influenza drug developed by a Japanese pharmaceutical company, but is also expected to be effective as a new coronavirus drug.

Foreign Minister Mogi said at a press conference on March 7 that the United Nations would provide 20 countries, including Indonesia, Myanmar, the Czech Republic and Iran, free of charge.

According to Mr. Mogi, there are about 30 other countries coordinating the grant.

"The development of therapeutics is extremely important, and we want to strengthen public-private initiatives and international cooperation," said Mr. Mogi.
