Hinda Ali Hassan herself has a Somali background and works with parent support and as a mother tongue teacher in Norrtälje municipality. Right now, she is participating in a major information effort to reach those who need information in languages other than Swedish.
So far, many deaths in corona have been linked to the Swedish Malay group and for SVT Stockholm, Hinda tells about how many people respond to them with fear and prejudice.
- If I am ill, I will not be accepted as a Swedish who is ill, I have that feeling. You do not take my illness seriously, says Hinda Ali Hassan.
Norrtälje municipality launches information campaign
Norrtälje Municipality is now addressing the concerns by recording information films in several different languages. With the help of local profiles that are well-anchored in the Swedish-Malay groups, one hopes to reach more to support them in their right to care and how to seek care during the current corona crisis.
