Spain registered more than 900 Covid-19 deaths on Friday April 3 for the second day in a row, authorities said.

In total, the new coronavirus pandemic has claimed 10,935 lives in the country, the second most bereaved in the world behind Italy.

In 24 hours, 932 dead were notified by the authorities, a slight decrease from the disastrous record of 950 dead announced Thursday.

The country has a total of more than 117,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, said the Iberian government.

Despite the heavy human toll, the rate of progression of new cases has been slowing day by day since the middle of last week, while the Spanish have been subjected to the strictest confinement since March 14.

The government of Pedro Sánchez further strengthened these measures by decreeing on Sunday the cessation of non-essential economic activities for two weeks.

But Spanish hospitals, where healthcare workers lack protective equipment, are saturated with 6,416 intensive care patients, according to official figures. Finally, more than 30,000 people have been cured of the disease according to the government.
