The harsh winds will pull in over the north west coast on Thursday morning.

"It gets windy when a cold front enters Bohuslän and then continues east across the country," says Chrysanthi Unnerstad, meteorologist at SMHI.

Trees can fall

A Class 1 warning of severe winds has been issued for the whole of Götaland and parts of Svealand, even Värmland and southern Uppland, until Thursday evening. The wind villages can reach 21-24 meters per second and the Swedish Transport Administration therefore chooses to suspend some train traffic in Bohuslän, Halland, Västergötland and Småland.

"There is a risk that trees or other objects fall on tracks or on contact lines, and we want to avoid travelers getting stuck on the tracks," says Jörgen Pettersson, press officer at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Longer travel time

The trains between Uddevalla and Strömstad stop at 10 am. Regional traffic on Kinnekullebanan in Västergötland will also be closed at 10am. Traffic on the Halmstad-Nässjö route via Värnamo will stop at 12am. Between Varberg and Borås, the trains are canceled from 3pm on Thursday.

Traffic on all distances concerned will be suspended for the rest of the day. Buses replace the canceled trains and travelers can expect longer travel times than normal.
