The Democratic Party of the United States announced today that its national conference has been postponed for five weeks, due to concerns about the spread of the emerging corona virus.

This gathering determines the party's candidate to face incumbent President Donald Trump in the presidential elections scheduled for November 17.

The party decided to hold its national conference on August 17 instead of mid-July.

"In light of the ambiguity that we are currently experiencing, we believe it is better to take some time to monitor the development of the situation so that our party can hold a safe and successful conference," National Congress Committee Chairman Joe Slamonesi said in a statement.

The decision to postpone the decision after Joe Biden, the favorite to win the party's nomination, expressed his support for the postponement of the conference, in order to enable a safe conference to be attended by the participants personally.
