02 April 2020 The bishop of Caltagirone, Monsignor Calogero Peri, has been hospitalized in the infectious diseases department of the Gravina hospital for persistent flu symptoms. It is subjected to more accurate checks and inspections. "On behalf of the municipal council and the city - says mayor Gino Ioppolo - I extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to our beloved bishop". The same wish was expressed, on behalf of the city council, by the president Massimo Alparone.

The prelate was already subjected to a swab for the identification of a possible infection with cononavirus. The hospitalization was requested by Monsignor Peri himself to evaluate in depth his health conditions, after a prolonged flu symptomatology.
