According to the analysis of the characteristics of China's R & D funding in 2018, in general, R & D funding meets the basic requirements and stage of China's economic and social development. In terms of investment scale, China's total R & D expenditure in 2018 was 1967.79 billion yuan, an increase of 207.18 billion yuan over the previous year, an increase of 11.8%, and it ranked second in the world. There has been a slight increase in investment intensity. In 2018, China's R & D expenditure investment intensity reached 2.14%, an increase of 0.02 percentage points from 2017.
