US stocks tumbled: Dow fell more than 4.4% and dropped nearly a thousand points

At the close, the Dow Jones Index fell 973.65 points, or 4.44%, to 20943.51 points; the Nasdaq index fell 339.52 points, or 4.41%, to 7360.58 points; the S & P 500 Index fell 114.09 points, or 4.41%, to 2470.50 points.
