Al Jazeera has obtained a copy of a Tunisian draft resolution stressing the importance of urgent international action to reduce the impact of the Corona virus, and calls for a global ceasefire immediately for humanitarian purposes to allow an adequate response to the unprecedented threat posed by the epidemic.

The draft resolution distributed by the Tunisian delegation to the members of the United Nations Security Council calls for confirmation of all efforts made to combat the epidemic and save lives.

Tunisia also calls on the non-permanent member of the Security Council in the draft to commit the council to taking special measures to provide protection for the most vulnerable groups in conflict areas, especially refugees, displaced populations, women, children and persons with disabilities.

The draft resolution urges member states, as well as bilateral partners and multilateral organizations, to act and provide technical expertise and additional medical capabilities immediately.

According to diplomats, the approval of the project is uncertain as the United States continues to press for China to identify a source of the virus, which probably means that the decision will be faced with the veto of Beijing.

As for Russia, which also has veto power, it may also want the resolution to include the abolition of sanctions, to better combat the epidemic.

Without American and European support, the decision in this case faces the prospects of its failure to obtain at least nine of the 15 necessary votes to pass.
