Seven residents of a nursing home in Lorient (Morbihan) died after contracting the Covid-19, we learned from management on Tuesday.

"We regret to deplore, to date, seven deaths following Covid-19, including four at the residence," said in a statement the management of the Edilys residence, which has 90 residents.

"The staff did everything possible to allow them a peaceful end of life and to make themselves as available as possible to keep families informed and maintain the link with their parent," the press release added.

Contacted by AFP, the general manager of the Argo network, which manages the nursing home, explained that an employee had been contaminated at Covid-19 in mid-March.

"We had already implemented barrier measures. When we learned of this contamination we immediately set up strict containment in the rooms, but it was too late, the first death took place on the 16th," said Pascale Maestracci, who deplores the absence of equipment, in particular masks, for the staff of nursing homes.

"The situation has stabilized and since the confinement in the dwellings, we have not had any new cases," she added while refusing to communicate the number of residents who show symptoms of the disease.
