WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders was suspended by the British professional boxing federation on Monday after a video explaining how to hit his girlfriend during confinement.

The 30-year-old British boxer had posted a recording of him in front of a punching bag on social media showing how to "hit her on the chin" and "knock her out". Comments which led to his provisional suspension by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) pending his hearing on a date which remains to be determined.

After an apology, in which Billy Joe Saunders explained that he would "never praise domestic violence", the boxer, accustomed to discrepancies, promised to give 25,000 pounds (28,000 euros) to associations fighting against this violence .

Saunders said it was a "stupid mistake" on Talksport radio: "There are people dying around the world with coronavirus and I was just trying to lighten the mood," he is defended, observing that "it is clearly not what happened".

"My sense of humor is not everyone's cup of tea," concluded the Briton who had already apologized earlier this month after calling an airline to report that a passenger, a passenger his friends had symptoms of coronavirus.

He had been disembarked from the flight with two other relatives of Saunders.

In 2018, the boxer was fined 100,000 pounds (112,000 euros) and received a warning from BBBoC after a video was released in which he apparently offered drugs to a woman from his car in exchange for a sex act then asked her to hit a passerby - which she ended up doing - before the boxer fled.
