The Houthi group in Yemen announced today, Sunday, that it carried out what it described as the largest qualitative military operation against sensitive targets in Saudi Arabia this year, stressing that "aggression countries" - in reference to the Saudi-Emirati coalition - launched Saturday more than eighty raids during these two days.

The Houthi military spokesman, Brigadier Yahya Sari, said that the operation involved the Air Force and the missile force. The Saudi regime vowed painful operations if it continued its aggression and blockade of Yemen, as he put it.

According to a statement issued by the Houthis published by the Al-Masirah channel speaking in their name, this operation came as a launch for the sixth year, in response to the escalation of the air aggression alliance during the past days.

The statement pointed out that ballistic missiles and drones targeted a number of sensitive targets in Riyadh with "Zulfikar" missiles and a number of "Samad 3" aircraft.

Aggression and threat
For his part, the Houthi spokesman announced that what he described as the countries of aggression launched more than sixty yesterday and twenty other raids today, and demanded these countries to stop what he called aggression and lift the siege if they wanted to stop the operations.

The Saudi-Emirati alliance had confirmed earlier that the anti-coalition had intercepted two ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis over Riyadh and the city of Jizan in southern Saudi Arabia.

The coalition said that the firing of rockets at this time reflects what it described as the real threat to the Houthis and the Iranian regime supporting them, and considered that this escalation does not reflect the Houthis' declaration of accepting the ceasefire.

Shrapnel fell due to the interceptions of the missiles on residential neighborhoods of the two cities, wounding two civilians.

Later, the Houthi military spokesman said that their air defenses had intercepted enemy aircraft in the vicinity of the Sanaa sky, before carrying out any attacks.

Condemnation and escalation
For its part, the Yemeni government condemned in the strongest terms Sunday the Houthi group launching two ballistic missiles on Saudi soil Saturday evening.

This came in tweets published by the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its official account on Twitter.

This escalation comes in light of the Houthis welcoming the United Nations' call for a ceasefire in Yemen, and preparing to face the possible spread of the Corona virus.

For the sixth consecutive year, Yemen has been witnessing a war between pro-government forces and Houthi militants accused of receiving Iranian support and controlling provinces, including Sanaa, since September 2014.

Since March 2015, a Saudi-led Arab military alliance has been supporting government forces against the Houthis, in a war that has left the acute humanitarian crisis the worst in the world, according to the United Nations.
