Faced with the progression of the coronavirus pandemic, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) extended the suspension of its competitions for two months on Sunday until June 30, and froze the classification in force in March.

"Due to the continuing uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the ITTF Executive Committee has taken the following decisions: suspension of all events and activities involving international travel until June 30 and (...) freeze of the rankings of March 2020 ", indicated the organization on its site.

The expenses of the executive committee and the salaries of the most experienced members of the ITTF will also be lowered, according to the press release.

In mid-March, the world table tennis federation had already suspended "all its activities" until the end of April.

The coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 31,000 people worldwide according to a count made Sunday morning by AFP, led to the postponement of the Olympic and Paralympic Games until the summer of 2021 at the latest.

In addition to this historic first in peacetime in the modern era of the Olympic Games, many national and international competitions have been suspended, postponed or canceled.
