In early December, Viktor Nyqvist, 25, went to the ski resort of St. Anton in Austria. The plan was to snowboard, photograph, and work at the bar and restaurant to wipe out the travel bag.

- The plan was to go back to Sweden again last April, but it was sooner than that, says Viktor.

Quarantined

When the corona virus spread to the area, the Austrian authorities acted. Just over two weeks ago, a number of ski resorts in the Tyrol were quarantined. 57 Swedes in the area were affected. Viktor and a bunch of workmates were now stuck in his house, except for grocery shopping and pharmacy visits.

- It has not been great fun right away. I'd rather have been outdoors and hiked in the mountains. But you do the best you can, I lived with a nice bunch and it was good atmosphere.

Got help from the Swedish embassy

When the quarantine was extended for another two weeks, the Swedish embassy in Vienna managed to get the affected Swedes out of the area. Last night two buses came and picked them up in St. Anton, along with four Danes and one Finn. Early Sunday afternoon, the buses rolled onto a ferry in Rostock, and just before 6pm they were on Swedish soil.

- We have just left the ferry so now we have to pass the passport control. It feels great to be home in Sweden, says Viktor Nordqvist.
