Eight passengers, including passengers and flight attendants, were killed when an aircraft carrying a patient from Manila International Airport in the Philippines exploded, Reuters and Xinhua reported.

According to reports, the plane, belonging to Lion Airlines, was caught in flames with an explosion at the end of the runway while leaving Manila Airport for Haneda Airport, Japan, around 8:00 pm on the 29th local time.

Immediately after the accident, Manila International Airport said that the airport firefighting and rescue teams went to the scene to evolve, but did not save the lives of passengers.

The Philippine Red Cross representative Richard Gordon explained on his Twitter that there were eight people on board, including three medical staff, three crew members, and one patient and one companion.

The more specific identities of the dead were not given.

Philippine aviation authorities have blocked the runway of the accident and began investigating the exact cause of the accident.
