In twenty-four hours, 838 people died of the coronavirus in Spain, a new record, after that of the previous day (832 deaths). The balance sheet of the pandemic of the Iberian Peninsula reaches 6 528 dead, according to figures published Sunday March 29 by the Ministry of Health.

The number of confirmed cases is now 78,797, an increase of 9.1% in one day in the second country most bereaved by Covid-19 after Italy.

With the exception of an inflection on Thursday, the number of daily deaths continues to increase day after day in Spain, where the health authorities hope to approach the peak of contagion. They observed a slowdown in the rate of daily increase in the number of cases and deaths in recent days. The only clarification: the number of people healed also increased by 19.7% in 24 hours to 14,709.

Cessation of "non-essential activities"

After Italy, Spain decided on Saturday to tighten the measures taken to fight Covid-19 by ordering the cessation of "non-essential activities".

"All workers in non-essential activities will have to stay at home for the next two weeks," said head of government Pedro Sanchez.

Health, food or energy in particular are considered essential activities.

This measure must be approved on Sunday at an extraordinary council of ministers, which should specify which sectors are exactly targeted.

The goal is to further reduce mobility and therefore the spread of the virus, while the Spanish have already been subjected since mid-March to strict confinement which has been extended until April 11.

Until now, they could only leave their home to work if teleworking was not possible, buy food, get medical treatment or get their dog out quickly.
