To fight against the coronavirus epidemic, the mayor of Sanary-sur-Mer in the Var has issued a new order preventing his constituents from moving more than ten meters from their home. Ferdinand Bernhard specifies that the fines thus imposed will be passed on to the carers of the hospitals of Toulon.

"It becomes difficult to bear certain whims," said the mayor at the microphone of Europe 1, denouncing irresponsible behavior during this period of confinement. "Over time, we realize that there are fewer and fewer people going out, but there are always refractory people who consider themselves stronger than the virus, stronger than anything."

Excessive measures?

The new instructions were sent directly to some 5,000 residents of the municipality, via a video sent by email. These images were also posted on the city's website and via Facebook.

The mayor concedes that these new measures have not been welcomed by all of his citizens: "Some people may say that it goes too far, 'this is dictatorship', 'you are excessive'. He nevertheless justifies them by stating that all of the revenue from the fines raised will be paid to the carers of the hospitals in Toulon.
