by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea March 28, 2020 "The word Coronabond is actually just a catchphrase, a slogan". The President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen said this in an interview with the DPA agency relaunched by the newspaper Die Welt.

"There are very clear legal limits, this is not the plan" of the Commission regarding an increase in the Community debt in response to the Coronavirus emergency, requested by Italy and other countries and opposed by others such as Germany.

"We are not working on this" added Von der Leyen highlighting how the word "Coronabond is just a slogan, behind it there is the biggest question of guarantees. And in this the reservations of Germany and other countries are justified " .

"The Commission - added Von der Leyen - has been entrusted by the Council with the task of drawing up the reconstruction plan, and these are the tracks we are working on".

About Italy he specified: "Italy is not guilty of the crisis that exploded with Coronavirus and is hit very heavily economically, companies must be saved".

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte immediately insisted: "Europe is up to par" while at the last meeting of the European Council, he asked for "extraordinary" measures to be taken against the economic emergency caused by Covid-19.

The answer of Prime Minister Conte at the press conference
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte further reiterated in a press conference from Palazzo Chigi, together with the Minister of Economy and Finance Roberto Gualtieri, that the decision on Coronabonds is not up to Von der Leyen but to the Eurogroup specifying, after the cold shower of the president of the Commission on Coronabonds: "The task of the proposals" has not been entrusted to you, there is now an ongoing debate. All debates "They are fair, but here is an appointment with history. With an emergency never so unheard of".

Prime Minister Conte stressed that: "There is no Member State that saves itself. It is a question of proving inadequate or not. Italy is aware of the powerful reaction that history calls us to operate. I will not go down in history as those who have done nothing "for Europe," I will fight to the last drop of sweat, to the last drop of energy ".

Even the Minister of Economy Roberto Gualtieri spoke of wrong words by Ursula Von der Leyen because the task of making proposals is entrusted to the Eurogroup. For the owner of Via XX Settembre we are experiencing a "symmetrical economic shock" from which we will only come out together.

These words are echoed by the French President Emmanuel Macron , according to whom: "France is with Italy, the European Union is not selfish".
